Summary |
Subaqueous slope failure and delta collapse may generate tsunami-like waves which pose a hazard to settlements and infrastructure on the lakeshore. WPwave aims to understand governing mechanisms related to the generation, the propagation, and the runup of these waves. The main focus is on the following questions:
Laboratory experiments and numerical simulations are applied to answer these questions. The experiments allow for a better insight into the underlying physical processes and act as a benchmark for computer models. Numerical modelling is required to compute tsunami scenarios for entire lakes at prototype scale and will form an integral part of the probabilistic hazard assessment framework of the overall process chain. |
